Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP- Recipes from Roberta’s in Brooklyn

My good friend, food stylist Valerie Aikman-Smith, and I had a great time in LA photographing the lovely Gwyneth and friends for a summer dinner party to launch her new cookbook club. Beautiful people, beautiful food.

The Power of Print, for Canon and Grey WorldwideThis was a dream job- I spent a week in Sonoma and Napa counties creating images that tell the story of Wine Country through the five senses. The project culminated in an experiential, interactive pop-up gallery show hosted by chef Tyler Florence in San Francisco to launch Canon’s new Pixma Pro printer. In an age of endless digital media, it was lovely to see big, beautiful prints of my work, and to have viewers experience the images in a more tactile way. I’ve never had an ad job with so much creative freedom - we had one conference call, I texted a few behind the scenes images from the road, and I loved their final edit. Thank you Grey!  I owe a lot of the success of the images not only to this creative freedom, but to frequent collaborator, stylist Christine Wolheim. Christine and I work together really intuitively- we wanted to stay far away from the expected wine and cheese shots to create moody, sexy, textured images.  The other key player was my friend Colby Eierman- we shot his orchard book together a few years ago, and he manages some of the most impressive gardens in Wine Country. Colby set us up to shoot and harvest from  the gorgeous Stone Edge Farm, and biodynamic winery Benziger. As good looking as his gardens, Colby modeled for us too.  Thanks to my friend Christy Power, who is deeply involved in Sonoma’s food and wine world, we also shot Sonoma’s oldest vines at Bucklin Old Hill Ranch. Many thanks to the great team that made this shoot so fun and rewarding.

Williams-Sonoma Dessert of the Day- a beautiful advance copy of my upcoming book for Wiliams-Sonoma with Weldon Owen Publishing showed up on set today. We’re busy working on volume 6 in this series, and by now we’re like family. Each book takes 2 weeks to shoot, and we have the best time on set.  Many thanks to the all star team at Weldon Owen + food stylist Robyn Valarik and Leigh Noe on props.

New work for the latest Kinfolk Magazine- I’m honored to be a part of this beautiful issue. We had the best time shooting at the Ramen Shop in Oakland, and the food and cocktails are incredible. Many thanks to JJ, Sam, Reyneil and their great staff at the Ramen Shop, and to Aya Muto for the writing the story and making it all happen! As always, Lisa Moir did a beautiful job styling.

April Food & Wine magazine feature- I had the best time working with Caitlin Freeman on this shoot- she is really lovely and her cakes are gorgeous- check out her new book on Modern Art Desserts

MA’O Organic Farm in this month’s Sunset magazine. I love this place and admire all the great work they do. I’m working in Oahu again next month and can’t wait to visit the farm.

I just wrapped shooting the 4th book in this awesome Williams-Sonoma series, and just in time for fall weather, the third installment is out! Many thanks to the dream team involved for their great company, delicious food and abundant talent:  Robyn Valarik food styling, Emma Boys and Amy Marr at Weldon Owen Publishing, and Leigh Noe on props. Italian braised short ribs… Baked kale and eggs… Calamari Fra Diavolo… So good.

Vintage Cakes for Ten Speed Press!  I loved collaborating with Julie Richardson of Baker and Spice on this book- she and her recipes are wonderful. Check out her bakery next time you’re in Portland- if only she would open an outpost in my SF neighborhood! Of course this was a great gig because we ate cake everyday, but I especially loved working with this fantastic team- a big thanks to Robyn Valarik for food styling, Ethel Brennan on props and art director Toni Tajima.

California Home & Design: Cookhouse

This was a super fun shoot for California Home & Design at Cookhouse, which is a really gorgeous space for cooking and entertaining. I also got to hang out with the talented women behind Refinery 29, Rue magazine,  PopSugar, Apartment Therapy and EaterSF, and enjoy an amazing meal by Chef Caroline Fey of City Kitchen. Beautiful styling by Natasha Kolenko. Thanks everyone!
