British Columbia- I’ll be in BC all week, shooting for Tiny Atlas Quarterly, surfing and hopefully catching some fish! We’ll be on a little island off the west coast of Vancouver Island- it is a super wild, remote place, so if you don’t hear from me, contact my agent directly as I’ll have limited web/phone access.

There are lots of great up and coming, independent magazines around these days, and I’ve loved collaborating with Kinfolk, Anthology, and Tiny Atlas Quarterly.  This time around I did a feature for my friends at Weekend Almanac, co-started by the very talented Ali Ziegler, who is a creative director I’ve worked with on several editorial and cookbook projects. It’s fun to go from big, highly produced shoots to loose, intimate projects, and for this assignment, I got to stay in my neighborhood, which felt like paradise after being on the road so much.

Órale! Back to Mexico tonight! Here are some images from my last trip there a few months ago with  Story Worldwide for a feature on Huatulco, in Southern Oaxaca state. I’ve spent a ton of time in Mexico, including driving through Mexico for 6 months in a WV van a few years ago, but I hadn’t been to this amazing stretch of coastline before. Great food, perfect surf, lovely people, not overtaken by condos and hotels.

Portraits for Tiny Atlas Quarterly- I am very happy to have contributed to the latest issue of this beautifully designed magazine- it’s full of work by lots of photographers I really admire, and places I can’t wait to go.

Prospect Heights, Brooklyn- this week’s location was a dream.

New work for Condé Nast Traveler- Hot Tables 2013! I had a the best time shooting this- visiting some of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area and checking out a few new ones.  My top pick is the The Ramen Shop in Oakland, where I also recently shot for Kinfolk Magazine. Saison is gorgeous and the food is top notch- I had photographed Chef Joshua Skenes a few times before at their old location, and it was great to see the new space. It’s not easy to score a reservation at Rich Table, but worth it. And, if you’re in Wine Country, go to Redd Wood for great pizza and cocktails.

Good Morning! Here is my latest cookbook for the lovely folks at Egg & Dart Press. I met author Mani Niall of Sweet Bar Bakery at a great dinner party at Creative Director Leslie Jonath’s house, along with Pam Senk Falk, who is the at the helm of Egg & Dart Press. Leslie knows how to throw a great party. Many thanks to the wonderful team- food stylist Karen Shinto + Ethel Brennan on props. The recipes are great- the best donuts I’ve ever had + great gluten-free and vegan options.

Emily Wells - Los Angeles

Back from LA, feeling inspired.

Back to LA to work this week!

We’re busy working on volume 6 in this series, and by now we’re like family. Each book takes 2 weeks to shoot, and we have the best time on set.  Many thanks to the all star team at Weldon Owen + food stylist Robyn Valarik and Leigh Noe on props.

Just wrapping up a fun shoot in Oakland for Sunset magazine, and in a few hours headed to a farm in North Carolina. I really hope there are some baby goats there. This is a behind the scenes shot from Pennyroyal Farm in one of my favorite towns in California, the idyllic oasis of Boonville in Mendocino County. Go there for amazing cheese and a glimpse of goat heaven.

I’m not afraid to admit that I love LA. I’ll be working here all week, staying in a great house in Santa Monica that I rented for myself and the crew. I get tired of hotels, and it’s fun to pretend I live here for a little while… Here are a few images from another recent shoot down south.

Sammie- An outtake from a recent shoot for the Americano restaurant at the Hotel Vitale.

New work for the latest Kinfolk Magazine- I’m honored to be a part of this beautiful issue. We had the best time shooting at the Ramen Shop in Oakland, and the food and cocktails are incredible. Many thanks to JJ, Sam, Reyneil and their great staff at the Ramen Shop, and to Aya Muto for the writing the story and making it all happen! As always, Lisa Moir did a beautiful job styling.

Happy long weekend! Here is some new work for Joie de Vivre hotels- we had the best week in Oahu shooting this! Many thanks to my great crew and my friend Mike McHale of Hawaii Prop Rentals for the perfect Vespa.
